About Department

The Department of Agricultural Extension plays a vital role in bridging the gap between agricultural research and farming communities by facilitating the transfer of technologies, knowledge, and innovations to end users. The department focuses on human resource development, communication, and behavioral change to enhance adoption of improved agricultural practices and promote sustainable rural development.

Agricultural Extension Education

The department provides strong theoretical and practical training in areas such as extension education principles, rural sociology, agricultural communication, extension methodologies, participatory approaches, gender and development, entrepreneurship development, innovation systems, and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in agriculture. Emphasis is placed on understanding farmers’ needs, socio-economic conditions, and institutional frameworks influencing agricultural development.

Through teaching, research, and extension activities, the department aims to develop competent graduates capable of working effectively with farming communities, development agencies, and policy institutions. The department actively contributes to sustainable agriculture, livelihood enhancement, climate-smart practices, and inclusive rural development by promoting farmer-centric, knowledge-based, and participatory extension approaches.

Department Activities

Providing quality education and practical training in Agricultural Extension and rural development.

Imparting knowledge on extension principles, communication methods, and technology dissemination strategies.

Training students in extension teaching methods, rural appraisal techniques, survey methods, and impact assessment.

Organizing field visits to villages, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, farmer groups, self-help groups, and development institutions.

Providing hands-on experience in organizing demonstrations, farmer trainings, exhibitions, campaigns, and use of ICT tools in extension.

Conducting extension and outreach activities including farmer awareness programs, capacity-building trainings, entrepreneurship development programs, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives.

Maintaining extension laboratories, communication facilities, and field outreach units, and actively participating in seminars, workshops, research projects, and collaborative programs to disseminate agricultural innovations and strengthen farmer–research–extension linkages.
