About Department

The Plant Pathology department plays a vital role in agricultural and allied sciences by understanding, diagnosing and managing plant diseases that threaten crop productivity and food security. It contributes to the development of disease-resistant varieties, sustainable disease management practices and early detection systems. Through research, teaching, and extension, the department supports farmers, agribusiness and policymakers in reducing crop losses and promoting environmentally sound agriculture. Finally, we also diagnose and recommend the Integrated Disease Management practices to the local farmers.

Department Activities

The Plant Pathology department undertakes teaching, research, and extension activities related to plant diseases and their management.

It provides education and practical training on disease diagnosis, pathogen biology and Integrated Disease Management.

Research activities focus on identifying pathogens, understanding host–pathogen interactions and developing sustainable control strategies.

Extension and outreach programs transfer knowledge to farmers and stakeholders through field demonstrations, advisories and capacity-building programs to help reduce crop losses and improve agricultural productivity.

Also involved in the production of Bio-pesticides in particular bio-agents viz., Trichoderma, Pseudomonas and Pacelomyces lilacinus.

Also involved in the testing of new molecule chemicals for their efficacy against the pathogens (Fungicides, Bactericides and nematicides) under field condition.
