About Department

The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry plays a vital role in agricultural and allied sciences by focusing on the foundation of crop production – soil health and nutrient management. The department contributes to understanding the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils, which directly influence crop growth, productivity and sustainability. It supports efficient use of fertilizers, manures, and amendments, ensuring balanced nutrition while minimizing environmental pollution.

Research and teaching in soil fertility, soil chemistry, water quality and soil – plant interactions help address challenges such as land degradation, nutrient deficiencies, salinity and climate change impacts. The department also promotes sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture through soil testing, precision nutrient management, organic farming and integrated nutrient management practices. By linking laboratory research with field applications and farmer advisory services, the department significantly contributes to food security, environmental conservation and sustainable agricultural development in both agricultural and allied sciences.
